CubeCart Development Update

Recommended Posts

For those who are not aware, the developers of CubeCart have been working on a new release which will sport many cool new features and functionality. Some of the core functionality has been rewritten to be more logical and modular. A development blog with a sneak peek of functionality can be found at http://www.brooky.com.

We are now getting to a stage where we feel that we are in a position to announce a realistic timescale for the next major release of CubeCart.

Release Date

We aim to have an alpha version available to our testers on the 4th June 2007. After it has passed alpha testing it will be handed to our security auditors, so that any potential security issues are removed/patched. We hope that soon after this we will be in a position to release a final stable production worthy version.

Price / License Model

This will be announced at a later date, but we expect to have an owned and leased license. Those customers who already have a copyright removal key will be able to reuse it, however the owned or leased license will have to be purchased in order to upgrade.

Source Code Availability

In order to license the software we expect that a couple of files will be encoded using Zend or Ioncube however over 99% of the source will be available which means that it will still be possible to modify your code as much or as little as you wish.

FAQ's

What will happen to CubeCart 3.0?

Nothing will change concerning 3.0. It will still keep the same license and we will release maintenance releases as and when required. We will also continue offering support for as long as our customers with an active support plan are using it.

Will I be able to upgrade?

Yes, an upgrade script will be available.

Will I lose any custom modifications or template/skin changes?

Unfortunately by upgrading you will lose any skin changes and code modifications. If you upgrade your store it will have default functionality and skins but it will remain populated with customers and order/product/category inventory etc.
