Nik Grey
Hi Folks, My first post, and hopefully it's a simple one to answer. I have searched and cannot find the answer so what is the optimal size of a file to be uploaded for a product image both in terms of resolution and physical dimensions (in pixels)? I need to get this correct before I spend hours uploading my images - I am aware that the thumbnails may not appear very clearly if the original size/resolution is too far out, and of course I want the product image to be as clear and detailed as possible and fill up as much area as permitted without changing any code. I have a clean install of 5.2.2 and am using the Mican skin which is standard. Thanks in advance (in anticipation). Nik.
bsmither
Welcome Nik Grey! Glad to see you made it to the forums. For the Mican skin, the size of the image displayed is 270px on it's largest side. The zoom-on-hover image is (I think) 600px. So, in my opinion, a source image of 600px on its longest side would be a nice place to start. If I'm not mistaken, computer displays logically render at 96dpi. Dirty Butter
I use 600px as the upload size for both our stores, if you want to see what that looks like on a stock skin and on a commercial skin.
Nik Grey
I am trying to keep things simple so want to stick with the supplied skins, which of the skins allows the larger images? I am just about to start filling my shop and want to make the images the correct size before I start ! I have spent a fortune on equipment for this new venture but haven't put anything in to the most important part of it all which is the public view of it - my cubecart My portal to the World
bsmither
Go for 600px on the larger side -- 600x600 if you have images like that.
