I reloaded the file, and now I have 2 images, yet only 1 shows for the product image section in admin. How do I remove the second image?

I am updating photos for some products, however the current image is not assigned yet it shows. When I deleted the image file, it puts some funky text in place. Any ideas on it? notice there is no assigned photo, but the scrambled text acts like one if you click it. Of course, when you upload a photo, and assign it, it doesn't save on the first try. usually takes 2-3 times before it adds.
