ridecals
Hi All,If add a new skin, will that affect the settings of my site. I have put a lot of work into it and don't want to start over. TIA Dave
bsmither
A new skin will not affect the settings, contents, or functionality of your site. However, if the skin has a plugin component, that is, a control panel where you can choose a layout or colors, etc, and the plugin wants to use hooks (should be mentioned in the skin documentation), there is an extraordinarily super-slim possibility that the hooks, if badly coded, could corrupt the Store Settings. Dirty Butter
Sounds like the safest thing to do is make a complete backup of database and store files before testing the skin, unless it's a skin many have used already without issue. What skin do you have in mind?
ridecals
That was my next question: If I a complete back-up and something did happen, how do I the re-install?
Dirty Butter
There may be a much better way to do it, but I go to cPanel phpMyAdmin and make a copy of my database, renaming it database-name-COPYdate. All I have to do is rename the original and the copy to make the copy the database in use currently.I FTP all the files to my hard drive, so I can upload them over the new if necessary. These kinds of changes trigger a need to clear ALL caches before trying to use the changed files/database.
