Kentish Embroidery
http://www.kentishembroidery.co.uk/index.php?_a=404 » This is showing up a lot on my stats pages. I've tried to find out how they are getting to these pages to no avail. Can anyone shed any light on this?
ayz1
If you have a Cubecart generated sitemap and have a lot of out of stock products it could be google trying to index these which will give a 404 error. If this is the case try generating your sitemap at http://www.web-site-map.com/ as this will only map in stock products.
Kentish Embroidery
Cheers for that, it's a bog standard install, and I don't use stock control.
Dirty Butter
I have about a thousand out of stock products, and we get just a few 404's showing in a day. IMHO I don't think that's the issue. I do wish there were a way to know what they clicked on that sent them to the 404 page.
Kentish Embroidery
Like a paper-trail, that would also give a good insight as to where customers are going from certain landing pages etc
ayz1
Are you using Google Webmaster Tools to keep track of your sitemap? If so it will give you a list of which pages are not being found.
bsmither
"I've tried to find out how they are getting to these pages to no avail." Please access your hosting account's control panel (Cpanel?) and find your site's Access Logs. They could be available as raw logs or summarized by a utility (AWStats?). The log entries will show exactly what the URL was that was requested. If that access was from a link found on another site, the log entry will contain the URL where that link was - it is called the "referrer". bsmither
Please fetch copies of your site's access logs. We can help once you obtain them. They can be obtained from the hosting account's control panel.
