  1. If the products are created as part of the ordering process, then the weight can be set as part of that creation
  2. Yes, simply login to your account at http://cp.cubecart.com and release the licence. if you also have a copyright key, then the same will need to be done but this can only be done by CubeCart staff so you need to request a key reset Thanks Ian
  3. Many hosting companies will have ionCube installed at a server level already but if the tests indicate that they dont, then obviously ask them first before thinking about upgrading but the chances are that if they dont already have it installed, then they are unlikely to install it for you as some have a policy to not install it. Staying on an old version might be a short term solution but with enhancements and a reasonable number of bug fixes in each new version this is not to be recommended for long term. If any users would like their store moved over to a specialised CubeCart hosting company and benefit from all the extras that we offer, then we do the migration from your current hosting company for free
  4. Have you logged a support ticket with the CubeCart team ??
  5. Have you got more details of the circumstances when these errors happen ? If not can you do some testing to detemine when this happens ? Saying "It doesnt work - please fix" isnt very helpful !
  6. hi Al I thought that you would get it sorted for him - was just pointing out that 1) using a different sub-domain is effectively the same as using a different domain, so automatic free use of licenced software shouldnt be assumed and 2) there are far simpler ways of doing it along the lines you have suggested which dont require multiple licences and worse still, management of multiple stores. The Inveo SEO mod works very well when configured properly with CubeCart (see http://www.fonerize.com as an example where it is in early stages of being implemented) and that along with a geoIP mod to auto-switch currency and language (see http://www.evolution-slimming.com where if you connect using an IP address from say Spain, France, India etc you will see a V4 version working very well) - a V5 version is under development by the way which will be integrated with Inveo SEO product. Thanks Ian
  7. If you wanted to setup good SEO for multi-language versions of a site there are far easier ways to do this than to have a different site for each language - mostly using built in CubeCart functionality along with a few add-ons Strictly speaking even www.example.com is a different sub-domain to example.com but most software companies will allow both but be aware that many SSL certificates will only cover one or the other and not both. I am sure that Al is sorting something out with you, but we have always found that if you want development licences to run on a different sub-domains, then Al has always been very accommodating. If you are running different businesses on a different address then why do you think that you should be able to run a piece of software that is licenced to one domain on as many as you want ? That is the same as thinking that you have 10 PC's in the one house so can run the same version of Windows or other software on them without paying for each. The cost of a CubeCart licence is tiny in comparison with your setup and on-going costs.
  8. hi Meg We are a UK based CubeCart specialist hosting & support company and have clients large and small from all over the world and would be more than happy to chat to you about your requirements. The best way forward would be through our contact form on our website https://www.havenswift-hosting.co.uk/clients/contact.php Thanks Ian
  9. If you are using php mail() as you say then none of that will have had any effect - you really need to speak to your hosting company and find out from them what was going on. Do you send large numbers of emails from your account as all shared hosting companies will have limits on the number you can send - this can be every hour or daily or some even restrict per 10 or 15 minutes. The cheaper shared hosting companies often restrict to very low figures like 50 to 150 emails per hour and will either block and / or silently discard any emails over their limit - might not be this at all but worth checking ! Ian
  10. You cannot enable or unblock a port on the server unless it is your own dedicated server but you should know or be able to find out from them what ports are used for the various different email services
  11. Hi Andrew As mentioned above, it would be useful to know what your hosting provider has to say but more importantly, what the settings are within the Store Settings | Advanced section of your store admin. If you use SMTP then it could be that the password was changed for that email address or there could be a variety of other reasons Ian
  12. Why would you want to remove this message ? This only shows if a customer isnt logged in and therefore the shipping charge cannot be shown precisely as the delivery or billing address isnt known. If you have fixed shipping charges that will never vary then it might be OK to remove the message in which case you can blank out the message via the language settings Ian
  13. If you want to use a "direct" payment gateway where credit card details are taken on your site then you will 100% need a dedicated / private SSL. In fact, most PCI auditors will require many more things so you are likely to need your own dedicated server. However as I said before, all stores should use a SSL for many additional security reasons to protect confidential information via the encryption provided. DB's advice to use a development / support / hosting person / company that has an in depth knowledge of CubeCart and a track record either on here or on CCF is wise advice - a simple look through the large number of recent posts where store owners have reported major problems by going to unknown people for services is proof enough ! Thanks Ian
  14. Google is great for answering questions like this ! Many differences but a shared ssl doesnt identify your website as belonging to your business and will be flagged by all browsers so if you are serious about your business then a shared certificate should never be used. At least you are looking to use a ssl though - so many store owners dont consider it something they need when ALL stores should have a full ssl installed
  15. Having CubeCart set to force SSL on all pages will seriously slow your site down which turn will affect customer experience and Google ranking so a solution to that needs to be found asap - standard CubeCart setup doesnt do that so it is either a CubeCart configuration issue or more likely a hosting configuration issue Googlebot can only index pages that are available to it and linked from another page on your site - it is doing nothing wrong No there is nothing you can add to robots.txt to stop this and the problem is elsewhere anyway. Without knowing your domain or having access to see if your SSL is installed correctly (have you asked your hosting company if this the case) it is difficult but have you checked the store settings for the urls to make sure they are set correctly Ian
  16. Why would you want or accept version 4 let alone version 3 ? Both are not supported and you would have purchased a licence valid for V5 ? Dont use a shared SSL - spend the little extra money and purchase your own. Your hosting company should be able to help with any problems installing SSL certificates - have you logged a ticket with them and if so what help did they provide ? You would be much better off getting hold of the developer especially as you have already paid for this ! It is the holiday period and you dont say how long you have been trying to reach the developer Regards Ian
  17. The test store should be closed at all times - there is no need to open it when testing. When logged in as an admin user you can still view the store as normal but nobody else can What sub-domain is your store on ? dirtybutter.com is a domain and anything in front of that such as plushcatalog.dirtybutter.com (including strictly speaking www.dirtybutter.com is a sub-domain). CubeCart can certainly handle sub-domains and it would be a strange hosting account that didnt allow sub-domains. Your store appears to be installed in a sub-directory http://dirtybutter.com/plushcatalog/ You can have as many installations in sub-directories underneath your main licenced domain as you want although the CubeCart licence only allows these for testing / dev purposes and NOT for multiple live stores Thanks Ian
  18. I'm sure Bsmither is right, but I'm paranoid when it comes to dealing with Google - so I did this in the domain robots.txt file for my plushlite test store: Disallow: /plushlite/ Dont ever think that Google cannot find that test installation - you would be amazed and it doesnt have to be a link from another area of your website ! The robots.txt file using the disallow as above and closing the store should always be used. Does /plushlite/ indicate that you have only installed the Lite version ? You should be able to licence the test installation using the same licence code as the main live site Thanks Ian
  19. Yes, close the test store - not the live ! Yes it would be the best way to test each upgrade but also each new tweak and mod change that you do in future (these should be done by plugins and then you wouldnt have this problem ) Your current store is in a sub-directory, not a sub-domain, so it actually makes no difference where you put it - it could go in dirtybutter.com/test - in fact I would suggest that it doesnt go below your live store. You can use a CubeCart licence on sub-domains (such as test.dirtybutter.com) but this needs the CubeCart staff to specifically allow this Thanks Ian
  20. Nik If your developer has written the new tool correctly as a true plugin then what he is saying is correct. What he could also mean is that he has included changed copies of each of the core files that he has changed. Subtle difference but one that you need to know about as it will make a HUGE difference when you come to upgrade ! It is always a good idea to have a test installation / staging area where upgrades and changes can be tested first before applying to live. The problem is that few people do this and many of those that do do it, dont keep the staging area up to date which negates any benefit. generally it is a very good idea though and your licence will work as long as it is on the same domain. Make sure you have the various entries in robots.txt to prevent search engines from crawling the test site and I would always suggest closing the store as well. Thanks Ian
  21. It is likely that your resource usage is simply maxed out and therefore you have processes waiting on other things to complete. The reasons for this can be varied (hardware problems causing high iowait, swapping due to not enough memory, poorly or unconfigured MySQL system, not enough memory cpu processing for the load or a whole host of less obvious issues) and your hosting company should be able to look at the server and help you - there is little more that anyone would be able to do without that sort of access.
  22. With any customer controlled file upload utility you add to CubeCart (or any website) ensure it has the ability to specify that the uploaded files are stored in an area above the publicly accessible folder. So for example if you are on a cPanel based system and your website files are in /home/xxxxxxxx/public_html (where xxxxxxxx is your account name) then it MUST upload the files to a new directory such as /home/xxxxxxxx/uploads. If it uploads the files to a directory such as /home/xxxxxxxx/public_html/uploads then you will quickly end up with a hacked website ! Thanks Ian
  23. Have you tried this using another briwser / another PC ? Do you have a second admin user that you can try ? Do you have phpMyAdmin access to the database ? DB asked some questions in the last reply - we really need more information to be able to help Thanks Ian
  24. Hi Just a quick add on to this topic - generally, dont use absolute paths for a number of reasons (there are always exceptions such as using a CDN for example !) 1) If you use a SSL (and everyone running CubeCart SHOULD be using one regardless of which payment gateway they use !) then hard coding http:// as a path to a file will produce a security warning if that page is then viewed securely - getting this is a quick way to ensure your customers to leave your site as most dont understand the difference. 2) Absolute paths are handled differently by the browser - using absolute paths forces the web server to establish a connection, send and receive the HTTP requests. If using relative, the connection is already established, so it doesn't have to go through that logic (hence increasing page load speed). You won't see an amazing difference in speed and caching also comes into play, and it also depends on the number of downloadable assets on that page but every bit saved has got to be good. 3) Using absolute paths can make it much more difficult if you ever change domain name - this isnt likely to cause most people an issue but is a pain if you are building a site on a test domain and then moving it later to the live domain Thanks Ian
  25. Hi Is "Ground" the only shipping method you make available or is there a choice of others as well ? It appears that at that stage, the customer is not logged in (or hasnt yet registered from the checkout page) and therefore the cart doesnt have an address to confirm the shipping amount which is why you are getting this message (the customer might be from the USA but could be from Australia where the shipping costs would be higher). The message itself isnt very helpful to your store customers so you could change that yourself. We also created a solution for a couple of our customers where their shipping wasnt address specific (for example fixed fee per order) so if that applies we may be able to help you. The CubeCart developers are aware that this is a bit clunky and are looking to see if a better solution can be found Thanks Ian
